Here are the stories:

Wisconsin is off to a good start in conference play. The Badgers thumped Purdue in a 41-10 win yesterday. Running backs Melvin Gordon and James White trampled over Purdue’s defense for a combined 292 yards. Both back carried the ball 16 times, Gordon rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns. The Badger’s defense also put on a defensive clinic and stymied the Boilermaker’s offense to just 180 total yards. The win sets up a showdown with fourth-ranked Ohio State next Saturday.

-----

Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy is listed as questionable for today’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The rookie back sustained a concussion in last week’s win over the Redskins. Packers have also listed safety Morgan Burnett out with a hamstring injury, while corner back Tramon Williams is probable for today’s game. Packers and Bengals are scheduled to kickoff at noon.

-----

Brewer players tossed bobbleheads and t-shirts to tailgaters after batting practice today, thanking fans for putting up with a disappointing season. Those disappointments continued in a 7-2 loss to the Saint Louis Cardinals. Starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo (11-10) allowed four hits and two runs in seven innings of work. With the win, the Cardinals maintain a two-game lead in the N-L Central.

-----

Former Green Bay Packers offensive tackle Francis Peay has passed away. The former first-round pick with the New York Giants played 62 games with the Packers from 1968 to 1972. After an N-F-L career, he became a football coach for Northwestern from 1986 to 1991. Family say Peay died yesterday morning, he was 69.

-----

Wisconsin native Steve Striker shot a two-under 68 in yesterday’s third-round of the Tour Championship. He is alone in third place and six strokes back from Henrik Stenson, the tournament leader at 11-under. Final round begins today from Atlanta, Georgia.
